Introduction:
Here's a something for the indie freaks, Seattle's 7th Order, who just recently re-located to Detroit. 7th Order was a local success in Seattle, now locating to Detroit to spread the word about their band. The band consists of Daniel Jones (vocals, guitar), Dan Miller (bass), Tim Kelliher (drums), and Martin Pugh (guitar). This 2-song release is a promo CD, which won't be sold anywhere, but 7th Order will be doing further recordings. For more information, go to www.7thorder.com. 1) Force Of Nature Comes Down is the first half of this album, starting out with a rockin' drum beat, and gets going with sometimes 70's sounding, sometimes 80's sounding guitar. The lead guitar here sounds good, it's not really groundbreaking, but I dig this song, the first half of 7th Order's debut recording is quite good.
Score: 8/10
2) The Lake Of Memory...Now for the second half of this album, and the longer half, this song clocks in at 7:38, the previous song clocks in at 3:41, bringing the grand total of this CD up to 11:09, which is quite long for a 2-song CD. Anyway, I started a tangent. Now to get back to the review. This song has sort of a 60's, 70's sound, without being dated specifically for that era. What really makes this song shine is the well-played and syncopated lead guitar licks. Not bad.
Score: 9/10
Overall Review:
It's not right to judge this band so soon, as I've only heard two songs, but so far 7th Order sounds like they have it. Hopefully these guys can hold it together for a whole album. This album has an earthy rock and roll feel similar to that of Led Zeppelin or Bonham.
