Anyone who can remember this band, please stand up. I see not too many of you are standing up. Blue Tears was an up and coming hard rock band from 1990, with only two years left of the hair band era, Blue Tears hit the scene with the single and video for "Rockin' With The Radio." This band didn't seem to make an impact back then, but looking at their page on Heavy Harmonies (www.heavyharmonies.com), I noticed they did make an impact, they have loads of comments on their page in the Heavy Harmonies database. Blue Tears is truly under rated. Judging by their sound, a lot of people must have labeled them a Bon Jovi clone, because they sound very much like Bon Jovi, but in my humble opinion, they own Bon Jovi, if you want something better than Bon Jovi's latest shitty albums, Blue Tears is for you. This is the type of album they would do nowadays if they'd stop trying to sound modern and mess up their own songs a la This Left Feels Right.

1) Rockin' With The Radio sounds like it could be Rock-n-Radio's theme song. It is a very Bon Jovi style rocker with keyboards and guitar which was the first single off this album. Why do I say this could be Rock-n-Radio's theme song? The lyrics: "The radio turned up to 10/We rode the night to the morning coming/We were rockin' with the radio/We were racing with the summer moon."
------------------
Score: 10/10

2) Crush is not as fast as "Rockin' With The Radio", but it continues the same sound. There are no keyboards here. This song is like Bon Jovi meets Def Leppard. The chorus rocks, the verses rock. The song describes what it's like to have a crush on someone. We can all relate to this. It kind of sounds like something you would have heard in the end credits of an 80's movie.
------------------
Score: 10/10

3) Blue Tears is a ballad that recalls something from Bon Jovi's New Jersey, with Def Leppard style vocal choruses. I take it this band was originally called something else, because they have a song called Blue Tears here. A lot of times, bands do a song with a particular title, and a band makes that their name. This is a good ballad.
------------------
Score: 9/10

4) Take This Heart is another good rocker. There is a strong keyboard presence. Blue Tears is not doing a typical keyboard oriented song here. Good tune, guys.
------------------
Score: 9/10

5) Halfway To Heaven is probably one of the best ballads I've ever heard. This should have been the second single after "Rockin' With The Radio." This owns any ballad Bon Jovi ever recorded.
------------------
Score: 10/10

6) Innocent Kiss is a good-time rocker in the vein of the other rockers here. This is a song about summer love. No, this ain't "Summer Nights" from Grease, it is another rocker. Blue Tears only sucks at one thing, doing bad songs, as a matter of face, I don't think they can record a bad song.
------------------
Score: 10/10

7) Racing With The Moon does something for me. This is just a cool song, it's not as good as "Crush" or "Innocent Kiss" though. This still gets a good score.
------------------
Score: 9/10

8) Kiss Me Goodbye features an introduction with horns, which I'm not a huge fan of. I never really liked horns in rock n' roll, but that part is subdued enough that it doesn't bother me as much as usual. This is a fun song though, which saves this song some points.
------------------
Score: 8/10

9) True Romance is the third of the Blue Tears ballad trio. This is another well-written song. Kind of a mix between the other two ballads on this album.
------------------
Score: 10/10

10) Thunder In The Night is a great closer. It's a fast upbeat rocker which like the other songs makes you think "Why wasn't Blue Tears huge?" When the song ends you're like. Damn, the album is over! Well hit the play button again, stupid!
------------------
Score: 10/10

Comments:

This is one of the best albums I've ever heard. This is Blue Tears' only album right? Wrong! Blue Tears recorded a second album that was hoped for release around I don't know, 1992? Anyway, it's called Blue Tears II, and if I ever get that, I'll review it too. Blue Tears was dropped by MCA in 1990 after this album flopped. Gregg Fulkerson was so pissed off it didn't get popular, he walked away. Wouldn't you be pissed off if you'd recorded an album this good and it flopped on its ass? Anway, Gregg Fulkerson and Mike Spears are now in the band Attraction 65, which from what I hear, bows down to Blue Tears.

This is for those who liked:

Bon Jovi - Slippery When Wet
Winger - Winger
Def Leppard - Hysteria

Score Key:
0: (scratches chalkboard with fingernails) ahh...I'm relieved
1-2: Weaker than weak.
3-4: Mediocre
5-6: Average
7-8: Good to Very Good
9: Great
10: Masterpiece
11+: How did I ever live without this?
