Fatal ones!!! Hailing from Sweden comes heavy metalers Fatal Smile. Formed in Stockholm, Sweden in 1996. Fatal Smile played shows in Sweden for five years before deciding to record their first studio album Beyond Reality (2002). The album received rave reviews from hard rock and heavy metal websites all over the world. So listen closely, fatal ones.
1) Bad Karma 10/10
Starts with a Black Sabbath/Metallica style guitar riff. This has a modern feel, but it's got enough of a classic metal feel to make the formula work. The verses aren't as loud as the bridge or the chorus, meaning less guitars. This is an awesome metal song. It's got a feel a little like Saigon Kick, also. The karma may be bad, but the song's not. I like the ending, very sudden.
2) The Saviour 10/10
The guitar suddenly tears its way in and the song is going unbelievably. The singing is awesome, in the fashion of European melodic heavy metal the way it should be done. We've got another winner, fatal ones.
3) Butterflies 9/10
This midtempo rocker is kind of cool. It doesn't have the same swagger as the first two songs, but it's got something else that just about makes up for it. It has those vocal harmonies that work nicely, and we've got another winner.
4) Circle Of Fire 10/10
Starts out like a ballad in the vein of Metallica and Whitesnake. It has acoustic style picking on clean electric guitar. I like the way the guitars get going before the choruses, kinda Zakk Wylde style. Then the song rocks the rest of the way through Fatal Smile style.
5) Warfear 9/10
The fastest rocker we've hit yet. This is a song about the fear of war, something we can all relate to. The song rocks all the way to the end. I know, you're thinking 'how original' but that's exaclty the case.
6) Beyond Reality 8/10
The song begins with a hurricane sound a bass line, then a woman's voice says "music." Then the same line goes, except with the guitars now. We've got another winner here. I know, you're thinking 'how original' but that's exactly the case. Whoa, deja vu!
7) Xcuse Me 8/10
Xcuse me as I review this song. This song starts out with an awesome guitar riff, the beat then slows down, but once again, we've got a winner. What are you picking a winner?
8) Scene Of A Crime 8/10
What are you doing fucking around with the scene of a crime? What did you say? The crime was throwing the Fatal Smile CD in the garbage? What a crazy misguided moron that did that! All crime jokes aside, this song is as good as any other song on this album, rockin' and heavy!
9) Crush On You 10/10
Much better than the last few songs, which is saying a lot 'cause those themselves were good songs. The title of this song is quite self-explanatory. Awesome, awesome song.
10) No Love 9/10
Not as good as the previous song. This a song some people can relate to, again, the title is self-explanatory. The album is finished nicely.
Comments
This is awesome European heavy metal. If you think these dudes are only gonna put out this album, you're fatally wrong! Fatal Smile is working on a new album. For my take on a couple tracks, refer to the review of Promo 2004. Those two songs are going to be featured on the new album
