This is a band from somewhere in the Midwest as I'm led to believe.
1) Intro 1/10
Basically an introduction to "Wasting Away." If you let the CD player just run though it'll sound like the intro here is part of the same track. Because of that I don't rate this, there's no real music here. It's just a sepeartae track to make it look like there's more songs on this album.
2) Wasting Away 8/10
Starts out with a killer guitar riff. Verses are really ho-hum and choruses are kick ass. What rescues this song is Mary's vocals. You can tell they're good musicians. If they'd put more effort into the verses the song would have been better. The rest of the song kicks ass.
3) Fragile 9/10
I like the intro featured here. But this suffers the same imperfection as "Wasting Away", but not as bad. As a matter of fact this is a pretty fuckin' good song. Mary Magill's vocals once again enhance the song.
4) Here And Now 6/10
Three songs running they've got the same imperfection....awesome intro, boring verses and kickass chorus. This is much more modern sounding than the last two songs.
5) Time 7/10
These songs are really starting to sound the same. I could tell you the problems with this song. But then I'd start sounding the same, too.
6) Let The World Right In 7/10
This could be something different!!! Acoustic opening.............DAMNIT!!! MORE OF THE SAME!!!! What saves these songs from bad scores is Mary...she is such a great vocalist (and she's hot).
7) Sad House 8/10
A little modern sounding, but at least we've hit something different. Finally, the vocals aren't the only good thing to talk about. The music here sounds pretty good. As usual the choruses are the high points. What's missing here is a lead solo. And the end of the song is missing something.
8) End Of This 10/10
I'm just starting to notice that Mary sounds like Doro Pesch from Warlock, but just a little bit more low-key. This is the most upbeat song we've hit so far. I'm actually picturing myself playing this song in a band as I'm listening to it. The music is not modern sounding. This song really kicks ass.
9) Arrow 9/10
Ass kicking introduction. Once again it tones down in the verses. The verse here sounds very mediocre. And as before, the chorus is really jamming, it actually makes you forget about the boring verse. During the verse, it sounds as if Mary is trying to sound like a female Eddie Vedder. She is her normal awesome self during the chorus and the rest of the song though.
10) Leap Of Faith 7/10
I wish they would get away from this in every verse. Same story as pretty much all the other songs.
11) Bend 8/10
This song is one of the better songs featured here. Good verses, choruses, and a killer lead solo. Sounds like a very dark Warlock song. Modern sounding too...but it is one of the high points featured on this album. This sounds an awful lot like Evanescense. I don't agree with reviews saying that Half The World is "a new vibe" or "a new revolution."
12) Trance 7/10
This song has a midtempo beat that somewhat reminds me of XYZ's "Inside Out." in the beginning. Oh the verse again (starts falling asleep, but it thrown a bucket of water at). Thanks...I still have 3 more songs to do. Good song but the repetitiveness is KILLING ME!
13) Evermore 8/10
The songs are just getting more the same. Even the choruses all sound alike now. I'm having fun reviewing this though, I've been waiting to review an album I don't go crazy over. This is a mixed bag really, because as I've said Mary Magill is one of best singers I've ever heard, this band has good musicians, but they do the same shit over and over. Not a bad song though.
14) Control 8.5/10
Good intro (please have a verse that doesn't make me yawn). Yes, this song is a breath of fresh air. The chorus kicks ass again, and even the verse isn't so boring. I can picture myself playing a cover of this in a band. "Control" is a lot more upbeat than the last few songs.
15) Edge Of Sleep 7.5/10
I was hoping the last song would start a momentum to finish the album. This song is pretty good, but the verse is again...ho-hum and somewhat mediocre. But the chorus fucking owns!!!
Comments
This album has its moments, but basically the only difference is most songs featured here are the names. Good musicians, but they lack creativity. As I've said before and I'll say one more time...what saves this album is Mary Magill's wonderful vocals. If you've seen all the reviews kissing the album's ass, let me tell you that this album is not all it's cracked up to be, there's good songs, but you've heard one you've heard em all. You can't listen to this album all the way through, if you do that you'll hate this, but if you just listen to one or two songs, you're ok.
