BulletBoys have officially released their first album since 1995's Acid Monkey. This release I have to say is pretty damn good. The songs sound good...as do Marq's vocals. He's the only original member left as of right now. So you could say that this is more like a Marq Torien solo project...and on top of that it doesn't even say in the booklet who's playing guitar, bass, and drums. Here...take a look.

Track 1) Kiss The Lizard 8/10

BulletBoys are known for their Van Halen comparisons. Here's a new addition to the collection. In the beginning of this song Marq Torien sounds like David Lee Roth in the beginning talking role, plus this song is not far removed at all from Van Halen's "Hot For Teacher." This is a song that would have easily fit on an DLR era Van Halen album. What kinda nags me about this though is every time this song picks up, it gets really distorted and there's too much bass.

Track 2) Neighborhood 10/10

Kicks off with a heavy guitar riff. Marq Torien again has some talking roles in the beginning. This here is not a ripoff of Van Halen...this is typical BulletBoys fashion...it would have fit on Freakshow no problem. Also for Skid Row fans reading this, Sebastian Bach sings some of the background vocals on this song. Very cool solo featured here. Great tune people.

Track 3) Can I Show You 9/10

A ballad. Wow I can't believe how good this album is so far, once I've gotten myself to ignore the distortion. It would have been a success in Bulletboys' heyday. Their insert has left me wondering who the musicians on this album are. I would like to know cause they are good. Almost as good as the original BulletBoys lineup. As for the song, I like it a lot.

Track 4) Don't Be Afraid 7.5/10

A midtempo rocker. The music is cool but the vocals are slightly distorted. This song sounds somewhat like something I've heard before but I can't put my finger on it.

Track 5) All Of The Day 8.5/10

A cover of The Kinks. I have to add to the BulletBoys' Van Halen comparisons. Van Halen did a cover of The Kinks on their first album...and now BulletBoys are doing a Kinks cover on Sophie. Now for the song? As Dave would say they did a stellar job on it, Very rocking.

Track 6) Walls 3/10

Semi-fast rocker. The verses are really strange...this is NOT traditional BulletBoys. Much heavier...BulletBoys speed metal? I don't think so. If you're open-minded, here you go. If you're looking for classic BulletBoys, skip this one. This is easily the worst song on the album. They're trying to be like thrash-speed. I don't get why they did this.

Track 7) Amazing 9.5/10

Oooh not bad. This is a fast sleaze-punk rocker. I gotta say this song kicks ass from start to finish. The triumphant comeback after "Walls." That right there is how I'll put it. This reminds me a little bit of Too Fast For Love era Motley Crue.

Track 8) Outta Here 9/10

Another sleaze-punk song. Not quite as rocking as "Amazing" but still a very very cool song. As I'm reviewing this I'm starting to notice that the distortion has toned down a bit, either that or I'm getting past it.

Track 9) Shake Me Awake 9/10

Three tracks running they got the sleaze-punk thing going. That's not a bad thing, I like it a lot. I love the changes that come in this song. Somewhat slower verses that the choruses. The solo here is very cool...reminds me a little of Poison. If you want to start a sleaze-punk band, this'd be cool to do a cover of. I love this one.

Track 10) Stoned Staley

The sleaze-punk streak is broken here. Now we have a rocking song with a very slightly modern feel like Beautiful Creatures. The modern feel doesn't bother me...even though I don't like modern things. Despite the departure from the last three songs, I think this finishes the album on a positive note.

Comments

I'd have to say this is best album from the BulletBoys since the first two. It would probably be better if it wasn't for the production. I don't want to sound like I work for Metal Sludge or anything, but man the production could have been much better. Don't get me wrong this is still a very good album, which is saying something because I, personally am not a huge BulletBoys fan. I really did like the early BulletBoys though.
